Green Curriculum

We recognise that the children in our schools will be the children who steward the planet into the future and we need to equip them with the skills and knowledge to do just that. At Elliot Foundation, our Green Curriculum is a way of teaching and learning that puts sustainability and the environment at the heart of the curriculum. You can find out more about our Green Curriculum here.

Wheat Project

In 2024, the regional hub schools for our Green Curriculum began a wheat growing project. The project sees winter wheat being sown in 'fields' measuring 4m x 3m in regenerative systems in urban locations across the country, including Birmingham, Dudley, Peterborough, and London. These 'fields' link real world learning about soil, science and sustainable food systems across the curriculum and allow children to develop their connection to where their food comes from. Greenside Primary in Shepherds Bush have led the way with this project by growing wheat for their in-school micro bakery and the project has helped change staff and student attitudes towards soil health. In 2025, all our schools will participate in a wheat project linked to Science Week.

Soil: The World at our Feet

Our wheat project is being featured in an upcoming exhibition at Somerset House. This exhibition will showcase a range of diverse pieces from different artists that explore the power and potential of soil. The children involved with growing wheat in their schools have supplied artworks and poetry to accompany the exhibition.

Food Waste

Alongside our Green Curriculum, each school also has a thriving Eco Council. These councils provide the opportunity for our children to take direct action with projects that directly impact their schools. This year, in addition to these individual school projects, we have one shared goal - food waste. Our Eco Councils are working closely with their leadership teams and school kitchens to address food waste and to find innovative ways of making a difference.
